Innovative Powders is developing a platform technology focused on industrializing centrifugal atomization. This process utilizes centrifugal force to create microdroplets of liquid metal, which then harden to form powdered metal.
TECHNOLOGY
Centrifugal atomization has been studied in detail by universities around the world due to its inherent advantages in producing powder that is perfect for 3D printing. The concept is simple: melt the metal to be atomized, pour it onto a spinning disk, droplets are formed as the metal is flung radially outward. These droplets then solidify while in flight before being collected at the bottom of the atomizer.
TIGHTLY CONTROLLED PARTICLE SIZE
This technology produces a range of particle sizes during manufacturing, but the yields of a specific size particle can be greatly improved compared to traditional methods of powder manufacturing. This means higher efficiencies for Innovative Powders and lower prices for our customers.
HIGHLY SPHERICAL PARTICLES
One of the major benefits of this technology is that it produces very spherical particles with almost no satellites. This means that the powders flow better and pack together more tightly.
